Le Café & Le Breton
Perhaps as obvious as night is day and day is night, since the inception of Café du Cycliste the Breton stripe has featured in our range.
It has been well documented that Coco Chanel brought the marinière into the fashion world. Artists, actors, and other designers followed suit throughout the twentieth century to take this French design beyond the tipping point and transform it into an icon not only in the fashion world, but also in the public consciousness.
Cycling was late to the party.
The original Suzanne. 2012.
Bold naval stripes against white. A classic design straight off the bat.
The Suzanne was the first Café du Cycliste breton-style jersey to make it on to the drawing board in 2011 and into customer's hands in 2012. Since then the stripes have evolved from bold breton, tennis-inspired, swim-suit-esque nods to the past and long-sleeved nailed on the mast. Add accessories in the shape of neck-warmers, socks and bidons to bring stripes from top to toe or as the perfect accentuation to block colours or other french design features.
The Henriette. 2012.
This jersey played with stripes in classic tricolor colours, a specially developed textured fabric and was the first hint at tennis inspired style.
The Antoinette. 2012.
More from vintage style as modelled by swimsuit wearers on the Côte d'Azur perhaps, but a shared marine-inspired heritage that results in striped design.
The Francine. Since 2013.
The mid-weight summer jersey that has been through multiple design evolutions. Originally simple in design, playing with the width and colour of the stripes has taken us from white to green, to grey tones and tennis stripes to multi-width stripes.
The Claudette. Since 2015.
Simple, elegant, technical design. Originally with a merino and silk mix. It stands out for autumn winter rides.
The Monique and the Arlette, since 2016.
Breton on the périphérique of the long distance. The Audax summer and winter merino cycling jerseys share the same detailing on the sleeves.
Monique with extra-long sleeves for more variable conditions experienced over distance.
Arlette's left-hand Breton piping includes a pocket for your Brevet card.
The Genevieve. Since 2016.
Inspired by the Breton fisherman's wool knit cycling jersey but with a modern merino wool blend and crewneck form.
Loulou neck warmers. Since 2013.
Breton stripe socks. Since 2012.
The little details that make up the whole aesthetic or add a touch of je ne sais quoi to block colours and classic styled cycling jerseys and jackets.
Bidons. Since 2014.
