Perhaps as obvious as night is day and day is night, since the inception of Café du Cycliste the Breton stripe has featured in our range.
It has been well documented that Coco Chanel brought the marinière into the fashion world. Artists, actors, and other designers followed suit throughout the twentieth century to take this French design beyond the tipping point and transform it into an icon not only in the fashion world, but also in the public consciousness.
Cycling was late to the party.
The original Suzanne. 2012.
Bold naval stripes against white. A classic design straight off the bat.
The Suzanne was the first Café du Cycliste breton-style jersey to make it on to the drawing board in 2011 and into customer's hands in 2012. Since then the stripes have evolved from bold breton, tennis-inspired, swim-suit-esque nods to the past and long-sleeved nailed on the mast. Add accessories in the shape of neck-warmers, socks and bidons to bring stripes from top to toe or as the perfect accentuation to block colours or other french design features.
The Henriette. 2012.
This jersey played with stripes in classic tricolor colours, a specially developed textured fabric and was the first hint at tennis inspired style.
