How did you discover gravel cycling?
I discovered gravel thanks to two friends who relaunched a steel bike brand and wanted to promote it in gravel racing. They asked me to join them on the adventure and I got involved in gravel in summer 2022. I was hooked straight away, the gravel seemed so much more open and welcoming than the road scene.
What races are you anticipating the most?
My big goal this season is the VIA Race, 4,000km across three countries. I’m particularly fond of long distances and I like pushing my limits as far as possible. This is what’s been motivating me since starting training. I really want to finish it, or get as far as possible – hopefully without incident!
What do you think about the evolution of women’s gravel and women’s cycling in general?
When I got into cycling I was immediately confronted with this very traditional, masculine discipline. Coming from running, where the gender balance is much better, sometimes the mentalities in cycling shocked me. In the three years I’ve been in the discipline, I have to say things are changing fast. Women are finding the place they deserve, in part thanks to the Tour de France Femmes, and the increased media attention on it. With gravel taking centre stage, things will evolve even quicker, since women seem really enthusiastic about it – in gravel they’re a major force.
One of your best trips on the bike?
My best cycling memory is my Tour de France 1903 that I did in summer 2023. It was a huge challenge, during which I discovered how much your mental strength can make the difference. These were the best days on the bike, crossing France and being welcomed by fascinating people.
How do you train for races?
All year long I log the maximum number of hours of riding, since I prefer ultradistance races. A month before a race, I start specific strength and interval sessions.
Any pro tips for race preparation?
Since I’m quite sensitive, I use good anti-chafing creams to avoid problems during the race!
